Environmental protection also depends from daily small acts, the replacement of old bad habits with
something more sustainable. We heard that a lot of times. But what are the concrete action we can
do for changing our non-sustainable habits? Today we’re gonna discover some of them, about the
most common habit: dental hygiene.

Since we were kids, they teached us to brush our teeth everyday, after every meal, for at least two
minutes. But probably they didn’t teach us those things that go beyond putting the toothpaste on a
toothbrush and brush. Those little mesures, and little acts, that save not only our dental health, but
also the planet’s.

CHEWING GUMS
A little tip on the subject, before we start: chewing gums that many use when brushing their teeth
isn’t possible, harm the environment. It’s well-known that they’re one of the most common garbage
in the world, with cigarette butts. Furthermore for removing them from tables, benches or from
whatever they’re outrageously sticked, needs a lot of work, with sanitizing harmful chemicals. Even if
you throw them in the bin, they’re wrapped in plastic and they’re themselves made out of polluting
synthetic material.

So, try to avoid using gums and if you can completely remove them.
TOOTHBRUSH
The now really common bamboo toothbrush, even tho they’re more expensive than the normal
ones, are the best choice inn terms of quality and sustainability.

They last more than the normal ones and they’re almost totally biodegradable (including the

TOOTHPASTE
Here it is my mother’s receipe for a great diy toothpaste.
This toothpaste has several pros and cons.
Until it isn’t tested many times by many people, you can’t ever be sure of its performance and its
effects.

But you’re sure of how and of what is it made: how much is it sustainable and healthy, if “the
workers are protected”...

Thus, you avoid packaging, kilometres of raw materials, semi-finished materials and finished
product transport before the arrival in the shops, and so you avoid CO² and the toothpaste isn’t

You can obtain this mix by combining coconut oil, baking soda and some drops of peppermint

MOUTHWASH
The natural mouthwash I suggest today is, in my opinion, even better than the normal one. As
a child I’d use a normal one, but in the case of inflammation and other things, my mother gave me
her fantastic natural disinfectant and super refreshing mix. The receipe is simple: a cup of water
with two drops of tea tree essential oil, for every time you brush your teeth.

And I gotta say, it is really great!
